In the book, Janet struggles with being in a same-sex relationship, which gives her the love her step-mum denied her. But knowing, without any doubt, that she was going against God's will for her life.
Jackie Hill Perry is a real life example of someone who went though similar challenges to those Janet faced. Here are a couple of videos where she talks about her faith and how the God helped her handle same-sex attraction. And her book. Which is brim full of faith and understanding.
The short one...
and the longer...
and the book...
Sam Allberry reveals he experiences same sex attraction but then goes on to explain what he means and how he can live in obedience to God...
I experience same-sex attraction but I'm not wanting to act on this feelings. As a Christian I'm wanting to live in obedience to God's word...
Jackie Hill Perry says something similar in the passage where she describes the temptation to return to same-sex liaisons in the days after she realised this was contrary to God's instruction. And isn't this the way it works with all sin? Our very nature, emanating from Adam and Eve's disobedience, provides continual temptation to sin. Our right response to this isn't to deny the temptation - or justify it as genetic. Rather, we should fight it with the power God gives us through his spirit.
